Transfer of the HVDC BorWin5 platform to the North Sea
On April 18th, the offshore HVDC converter platform of the BorWin5 grid connection system, which includes topsides and jacket, departed from the Dragados Offshore facilities in Puerto Real and is en route to its final destination in the North Sea. The onshore phase of the platform was successfully completed and it is now aboard the transport barge “Iron Lady”. It will first make a brief stop at the Dutch port of Rotterdam, where it will be transferred to the world’s largest installation vessel, the “Pioneering Spirit” of Allseas. After the transfer of the topside and jacket, it will continue its journey aboard the “Pioneering Spirit” to its installation site in the German sector of the North Sea. The total transport time is expected to take approximately two weeks, with offshore installation taking another two weeks. Once installed, offshore connection activities, cable connection, commissioning, and startup of the platform will be carried out before final delivery to the client TenneT.
