Dragados Offshore, in a consortium with Siemens Energy, has reached a multi-year framework agreement with the Dutch-German transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT. The agreement aims to develop three wind energy converter platforms in the North Sea, a significant project that will promote renewable energy in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These converter platforms will play a crucial role in the transmission of power generated by several offshore wind farms. Their main function will be to convert the alternating current generated by these farms into high voltage direct current (HVDC). This energy will then be converted into alternating current at onshore substations located approximately 200 km away in Wilhelmshaven and Heide in Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The construction of these converter platforms, each with an estimated weight of around 34,000 tonnes, is expected to generate more than 2,000 jobs per platform. The project will provide workload until 2031, thus boosting the local economy and promoting technological development in the renewable energy sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On 20 April, Pedro Ascorbe, President of Dragados Offshore, together with Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Castillo, CEO of COBRA IS, attended the official contract signing ceremony, organised by TenneT in Berlin. This signing is a significant step in Dragados Offshore and Siemens Energy’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and the transition to a cleaner and more efficient energy future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
